    The first Central and Eastern European (CEE) Impact Day, co-hosted by the Hub Vienna and Toniic, brought together a select group of impact investors and social entrepreneurs for a full day to explore status, potential and challenges of impact investing in Central and Eastern Europe. Impact Economy Founder and Managing Director Dr. Maximilian Martin hosted the session “Impact Investing: the Big Picture”, with fellow speakers impact investor and Toniic co-founder Charly Kleissner and sustainability and cleantech pioneer Alois Flatz from Zouk Capital.

  • Changing the Patterns of Agriculture and Rural Development via the Ashoka Globalizer Summit

    A world-class cohort of social entrepreneurs focusing on rural innovation and farming gathered in Switzerland for the Ashoka Globalizer Summit held in Geneva supported by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and a high-energy post-Globalizer session in Zurich co-organized by Impact Economy and moderated by Dr. Maximilian Martin. The post-Globalizer evening session on ‘Rural Innovation and Farming: Maximizing Accelerator Opportunities’ supported by Krüger & Co. AG was organized to bring together leading social entrepreneurs from the Ashoka Fellow network who have innovative solutions to global pressing problems, with a range of impact investors and financial institutions in the German-speaking part of Switzerland.

  • Synergos’ Global Philanthropists Circle Member’s Spring Meeting 2012

    Synergos’ 25th Anniversary Spring Meeting 2012 brought together its Global Philanthropists Circle (GPC) in New York, focusing on ‘Beyond Philanthropy: Deploying Capital to Create Social Change’ and ‘Sustainable Food Systems’. The festivities were kicked off by Synergos’ inspiring University for a Night with President Bill Clinton, Peggy Dulany and David Rockefeller on June 5. On June 6 and 7, GPC members interacted with leaders in philanthropy, business and finance, government and civil society from around the world to share knowledge and experiences on impact investing, philanthropy, and sustainable food systems. Impact Economy’s Dr. Maximilian Martin was delighted to participate and serve as one of the session leaders on “Impact Measurement as Strategic Performance Measurement”.

  • Corporate Responsibility and Philanthropy in Central and Eastern Europe: ‘Learning from What Works’ Conference in Bled, Slovenia

    Bled, Slovenia – April 16, 2012

    At the IEDC Bled School of Management, next to the beautiful Lake Bled in Slovenia, Studio Moderna and Impact Economy co-hosted the conference “Learning from What Works: Corporate Responsibility and Philanthropy in Central and Eastern Europe”. With the speaker participation of the President of Slovenia, Dr. Danilo Türk, the Clinton Global Initiative, Studio Moderna Founder Mr. Sandi Češko, and Dr. Claude Béglé, Ambassador of the Green Economy Initiative R20 – Regions of Climate Action, and Dr. Maximilian Martin, the conference brought together 80 high-level business leaders, impact investors and (social) entrepreneurs from around Europe to look into cases of win-win opportunities for business and society in the region and beyond. The discussions generated lots of enthusiasm anchored in a can-do attitude and a desire to learn from each other’s experiences what works and what better to avoid.
